POWERING THE FUTURE

'For PV systems life cycle greenhouse gas emissions are now in the range of 15 g/kWh.  For comparison, a combined cycle gas-fired power plant emits some 400 g/kWh and a coal-fired power plant 915 g/kWh'

BUSINESS AND ENVIRONMENT

BUSINESS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

The environment has emerged as a key issue confronting business owners around the world. Increasingly stringent pollution targets are driving innovation and creating new market opportunities for companies that provide environmental solutions. The UK has been at the forefront of the push for reducing carbon emissions since becoming the first country to put their efforts into law at the end of 2007 with the Climate Change Bill.  Introduced under this plan is the rapidly approaching and mandatory Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC), stated to come into effect in April of 2010.  The government estimates that the scheme will affect 25% of total business sector emissions within the UK with an ultimate goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2050.

There are real benefits to a business in acting now to reduce their carbon footprint:

  • Being responsible wins the trust of communities.
  • It gains respect from the governments of countries where it operates.
  • It wins the loyalty of customers and the respect of the public.
  • It gives a company an edge in attracting new recruits and talent.
  • It wins recognition from investors for managing a business well.

Building a reputation as an environmentally responsible business sets you apart.
